Southbourne is nestled between Bournemouth and Christchurch and is close to sandy beaches which has made it a much sought after location. Many locals spend quality time walking or cycling along the promenade, stopping for a refreshing coffee at Bistro on the Beach or one of many pubs situated on the Overcliff. There is also an abundance of water sport activities to choose which includes windsurfing, kitesurfing, paddle boarding and sailing. There are also open water swimming clubs, if you’re feeling brave!
Christchurch is a pretty historic town and one of the most popular places to visit in the area. It has numerous historical sites, including castle ruins, the magnificent ancient Christchurch Priory and a medieval bridge running over the River Avon and River Stour. The High Street offers a good variety of independent shops and a large traditional market is held every Monday. The Regent Centre, also located on the High Street, offers opera, ballet and a variety of theatre productions. Don’t forget to experience the wonderful Captain’s Club Hotel, near Tuckton, and enjoy the scenic river views over the River Stour while sipping cocktails.
Bournemouth offers a great seaside experience with its famous pier and rows of multi coloured beach huts. There are plenty of shows, musicals and bands to experience at the BIC and also at the grand Pavilion Theatre, which will keep you entertained all year round. Further east you will encounter the enchanting pined chines leading to Poole beaches.
For an artistic and cultural option, head to the Russell Cotes Museum and Art Gallery, or if you want to explore marine and sea life wonders, then take a trip to the Bournemouth Oceanarium.
Restaurants and bars are in abundance in Bournemouth town centre, so be sure to explore the cosmopolitan array on offer. Why not book at table at The Nici, 1805, The Cumberland or visit the Level8ight bar which sits on the top floor of the Hilton Hotel.
If you love playing golf and spending time on the greens and fairways, then you will not be disappointed with the selection of golf courses in the area, which include Meyrick Park, Queens Park and Christchurch. All are public, so just book your tee time and putt away!
If you fancy a city break or an extended time abroad, Bournemouth Airport is on the door step for very easy access to Europe & some parts of the UK. Also, don’t forget that living on the South Coast is only two hours from London by train or car for further exploring.
